Dustin Egusquiza says being No. 1 in the PRCA world standings has always been his goal. Today, with $123,713 in prize money, he’s made that goal a reality.
“I am really happy to have reached this accomplishment at this point in the season,” Egusquiza says as he heads to Utah next on his tour of the Northwest.
Thanks to a sizzling run through Cowboy Christmas in July, he has narrowly passed Nelson Wyatt by a margin of less than $5,000 as of August 9.
Since the beginning of August, he and partner Levi Lord racked up big prize money by taking firsts at both the Dodge City Roundup and the Larimer County Fair and Rodeo in Colorado, and third at Kansas’s Biggest Rodeo in Phillipsburg.
Egusquiza, a five-time NFR qualifier, finished seventh in the world standings and sixth in the NFR average standings in 2022. In 2021, he finished third in the world with then partner Travis Graves.
With a sixth trip to the NFR on the horizon, Egusquiza knows what he has to do.
“My main goal right now is to maintain that position,” he says.
