TANNER TOMLINSON

BIOGRAPHY

In 2022, Tanner Tomlinson and Patrick Smith finished the average champions at the NFR in Las Vegas and overall reserve champions.

Tanner Tomlinson was crowned the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Assocation’s Rookie of the Year in 2020. The header from Angleton, Texas beat Britt Smith by less than $1000 to take the honor. He reached his two biggest goals that year - winning the Rookie title and finishing out the season in the top 40 of the PRCA world standings.

In 2021, he joined up with two-time world champion heeler Patrick Smith and finished the year ranked 30th.

A “young man with a lot of promise,” according to Western Sports Roundup, Tomlinson has a bright future. Smith, who first teamed up with Tanner to enter jackpots, says his partner’s roping ability “is going to change the game.

Heroes are remembered, but legends never die.

Tanner and The Frio

Tanner Tomlinson has been using our newest rope, The Frio, since it debuted a year ago. And oh, what a ride it's been!

Tomlinson started using The Frio when it came out in October 2022. Since then, he has garnered success at last year’s NFR - finishing as the average champion with heeler Patrick Smith - and is now sitting in second in the PRCA Playoff series standings and seventh in the world standings.

Tomlinson says he took to The Frio right away last fall.

“The Frio is a lighter rope with good weight, good tip weight and stays open,” Tomlinson says."

Tanner and The Frio

Tanner Tomlinson uses The Frio rope, a collaboration between him and master rope maker Guy Alford that came out last fall. Since then Tomlinson, who won the 2022 NFR Average Title, continues to find success. Midway through August, he finds himself ranked #6 in the PRCA standings.

“I’ve always liked a lighter rope, but it was hard to find one with good weight, good tip weight and would stay open,” Tomlinson says. “With The Frio, you can run to the hip, it’s real snappy, stays on the horn good, and stays open good. It has enough tip weight to get there.”

On A Hot Streak

Tanner Tomlinson and Patrick Smith are on a hot streak this July. The pair just came away with a big win over the July 15 weekend at the Silver State Stampede, one of the rodeos included in the Cinch Playoff Series, by clocking 3.8 second winning run and setting an arena record.

The top 8 finishers in the Playoff Series will compete for the Governor’s Cup and more than $1 million in prize money. The event, set for Sept. 28-30, in Sioux Falls, will be the richest rodeo in South Dakota history.

Currently, Smith is ranked 5th in the PRCA world standings among heelers, and Tomlinson is 6th among headers.
