The 2021 WPRA World Champion Sawyer Gilbert has her eyes on the NFR in Las Vegas in December after winning it all there last year. The 20-year-old from Buffalo, South Dakota took the sport by storm when she won Cheyenne Frontier Days in ‘21 and hauled in $28,000 in prize money.
Gilbert was the first ever Cheyenne Frontier Days Breakaway Roping Champion whose earnings counted toward the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association standings. After Cheyenne, the talented roper then continued her rise to number 1 by winning the Pendleton Round-Up in Oregon in September.
Sawyer started roping when she was 6, winning the South Dakota Junior High Rodeo Breakaway in 2016 and Nationals that same year. She was the two-time state champion before accepting a rodeo scholarship to Weatherford College in Texas.

BACK IN BUSINESS
2021 NFBR Champion Sawyer Gilbert returned to the center stage in a big way on Saturday when she made history as the first-ever breakaway champion of the Austin Rodeo. After a tough season in 2022 and not qualifying for a return trip to Las Vegas, the win last weekend took some pressure off of Gilbert.
“Finally,” she says, sighing. “Finally.”
The road back to center stage started after the 2021 NFR Finals, where she had just earned a hard-fought win and a world championship.

Fast ropes? You bet. Consistent ropes? Uh uh, consistent, too. For proof of just how reliable Lone Star ropes really are, just look back at the National Final Rodeo last December, when 19-year-old Sawyer Gilbert roped her way to the World Championship using our Pink Caddy.

With the win, Gilbert also became the 2021 WPRA World Champion Breakaway Roper.
